Brand New Prodain Lift Opens in Avoriaz.... with an extension already planned

After many years of service, the original Prodain lift built in 1962 connecting Morzine to Avoriaz has been replaced by an updated version - the Prodain S3.

Prodain Lift AvoriazOpening for this first time at 7am this morning (13th April 2013), the lift will provide the connection between Prodain and Avoriaz, replacing the existing lift, starting and finishing slightly to the south at the bottom of the Crot piste. Unlike the original lift which operate two cabins, the S3 will operate 12 cabins increasing the uphill capacity to from c. 500 to 2000 people per hour and reducing the journey time from the current 7 minutes to 4minutes 20 second - reducing the queues at peak times.

Recently released plans show how the lift is expect to be extended to connect Morzine town centre with Avoriaz, with the new Prodains base station acting as a mid station for the extended lift. This would provide a great link between the two resorts which are currently only served by the Super Morzine connection and open up the Portes du Soleil even further.
